Symbiogenesis and the Anthropic Principle may sound like ideas reserved for biology and cosmology but they speak directly into the AI spotlighted moment we’re living.
Symbiogenesis tells us that life advances through deep relationship. Not just cooperation, but integration. Separate beings becoming something new together.
The Anthropic Principle reminds us that the universe itself is finely tuned for conscious life, for awareness, meaning, and relationship to even be possible.
Put simply: We were made for connection. And transformation happens within it. Now consider where we are with artificial intelligence. We are not just using tools. We are entering into a kind of symbiosis with them.
AI is moving into spaces once held by human presence, conversation, care, guidance, even spiritual reflection. And if symbiogenesis teaches us anything, it’s that what we integrate with… shapes what we become. So the question isn’t just technological. It’s deeply human. And deeply spiritual.
What kind of people are we becoming in relationship with these systems?
That question is at the heart of the InterfAIth project, the anthology I’m sponsoring is exploring stories and practices of hope, wisdom, and community across faith traditions in an AI-driven world.
This is not about resisting innovation. It’s about grounding it.
It’s about ensuring that as we move toward deeper integration with intelligent systems, we do not lose the essence of what it means to be human:
– Presence
– Love
– Relationship
We believe the future should not be shaped by technology alone, but by wisdom.
We are currently inviting contributors; writers, practitioners, technologists, and spiritual leaders to be part of this project.
If you are thinking deeply about AI and humanity…
If you care about how faith, meaning, and community evolve in this new era…
If you believe technology should serve human flourishing, not replace it…
Join us. Let’s shape a future where what we become together still reflects the best of who we are.
