My homework for this weekends Franciscan Justice Circle was to listen to this Walter Brugemmann podcast on Prophetic Imagination (I highly recommend). I took notes then fed my notes into ChatGPT and asked for a summary liturgy and this is what I got:
Leader: In the pit of unworthiness, we cry out.
All: Yet the Spirit breathes within us.
Leader: Shame builds walls too high to climb.
All: But Christ tears the veil, and all is holy.
Leader: Pain sells us lies, “You deserve this, you are nothing.”
All: Resurrection steals us back, whispering, “You are beloved, you are mine.”
Leader: We name the shadow, we gather the broken child within.
All: We breathe together, slow breath, belly breath, Spirit breath.
Leader: All creation joins us, Brother Moon, Sister River, the dance of Trinity in every living thing.
All: All is gift, all is grace, and in our falling we are raised.
Leader: The dragon’s fire is only smoke.
All: Hope is stronger. Love is eternal. Christ is risen in us. Amen.
2. Personal Interior Psalm (for reflection, journaling, or retreat)
I descend into the cavern of shame, where self-hatred feeds on silence.
Yet even here, the Spirit waits with open arms.
I tell my broken self:
This is not your fault.
You are not your shadow.
You are more than the dragon’s whisper.
The pit becomes womb.
The bottom becomes threshold.
I die to the mask,
and rise as child of God.
All is holy—
even the wound,
even the silence,
even me.
